The Sree Subrahmanya Swamy temple in Haripad is one of the oldest temples in Kerala which is around 15 kms from Alapuzha town. This is also known as Dakshina Palani. It is believed that the temple was established even before the Kaliyuga.It is the largest Subrahmanya Swamy Temple in Kerala and boasts the longest dhwajastambha(flagpost - kodimaram )
This temple is built in the ancient Kerala style architecture.The temple has four Gopurams. It has the golden flag mast on eastern side,which is said to be the tallest among all the Kerala temples. The temple compound has a Koothambalam( where cultural events take palce).It is believed that this temple is about 3500 years old and was built by Parasurama. The temple was reconstructed about 100 years ago after a destructive fire.
The idol of Subramanya Swamy is seen with four arms. Vel (Spear)in one hand, Vajrayudha in another hand, one hand in abayahastham (blessing) and the other resting on the thighs. The idol is about eight feet in height. The idol faces East.It is believed to have been originally worshipped by Parashurama.
There are sannidhis for Dakshinamooorthy, Ganesha, Sri Krishnan, Naga, Shasta too.
