Thirumoozhikalam is one of the 108 divya desam temples situated in Kerala near Aluva.

As per legends Hareetha Maharshi did penance on the banks of river Periyar. Lord Vishnu appeared before him and gave some advices to Hareetha maharshi to overcome the difficulties in the Kali yuga. These advices are called "thiru mozhi" meaning sacred words. And there after this place got its name as "thirumozhi kalam" kalam meaning place. This later became Thirumoozhikkulam.

This shrine is also associated with legends from the Ramayana. Legend has it that while Bharata came to plead to Rama to take over the reins of the kingdom, an angry Lakshmana suspecting Bharata's motive intended to kill him. Rama pacified Lakshmana and Bharata's true motive was soon revealed,Lakshmana repented for his sin, and to get rid of the sin the two of them worshipped together at Tirumoozhikkalam.
