Thiruvattaru Sri Adi Kesava Perumal Sri Adikesava Perumal Thiruvattaru is one of the 108 divya desam temples situated in Tamil Nadu near Kerala border. It is surrounded on three sides by three rivers, river Kothai, river Pahrali and river Thamirabarani. As per legends,Lord Brahma performed a Yagna without Saraswathi and as a result of Saraswathi's anger, two asuras by name Kesan and Kesi emerged out of the Yaga agni. Kesi was giving problems to the Devas.Sri MahaVishnu fought with him pushed him and laid over him. Kesi's wife Asoori prayed to river Ganga.Ganga then along with Tamirabharani swelled and rushed towards this place. Goddess Bhumadevi raised the land where MahaVishnu was lying like a small hillock and the gushing rivers went past the hillock on either sides in the shape of a garland.
