Thiru Kalvanoor - inside Kamatchi temple

Thirukalvanoor is one of the 108 divya desam temples situated in Kanchipuram, inside the Kanchi Kamatchi Amman temple. One of the story behind this stahlam is that at once in Vaikuntam ,there was a misunderstanding between Maha Vishnu and Lakshmi. Maha Vishnu gave a curse on Mahalakshmi to attain black toned skin color. Lakshmi went to Kamatchi in Kanchipuram to seek remedy and get back her original skin tone.

Maha Vishnu, not finding Lakshmi in Vaikuntam, came in search of her. He saw her talking to Parvathi ( Kamatchi) and curious to know the conversation he observed them stealthily. Kamatchi noticed Sri Narayana hiding and listening. She smiled to herself and nick named Sri Narayana as 'Kalvan' ( thief).

Sri Narayanan's sannidhi is thus found inside the Kamatchi amman temple outside to the main sanctum. This place is called Thiru Kalvanoor.

Moolavar is Kalvar also known as Adi Varaha Perumal. Moolavar is found in a standing position facing West.
