Thirupulingudi -Sri Kaisinavendhan Perumal Temple

Thirupulingudi Sri Kaisinavendhan Permual Temple is one of the 108 Divya Desams and a Nava Tirupathi located near Sri Vaikundam across the river Thamiraparani, Tamil Nadu, South India. This is also called as Navagraha Tirupathis because each of the Navagrahas is said to have worshipped at the temples here. In that aspect this is dedicated to Budhan or Mercury.

As per legends,Maha Vishnu along with Maha Lakshmi came to this place attracted by nature and the serenity. Maha Vishnu decided to spend some time here with his consort Maha Lakshmi. Meanwhile Bhooma devi was searching for Maha Vishnu and saw that he was spending time with Lakshmi. She felt jealous and upset and went into hiding to her abode, the earth. After she went into hiding, the earth became dry, and it was drought everywhere. Living beings struggled to survive without food. All the Sages and Devas went to Maha Vishnu for help. Mahavishnu realizing that this was because of the absence of Bhoodevi, He went to Underworld and pacified Bhoodevi. Bhoodevi realised her mistake and came back to Him. The Earth then became lively and fertile once again. Because Maha Vishnu restored the earth to its original glory, he became to be known as Bhoomi Balan.

The temple has no Rajagopuram. This temple is small but beautiful.We can see exiquisite stone sculptures and carvings in the pillars of this temple.

The Moolavar here is Kaisinavendhan in a Pujanga sayana kolam(lying posture). The moolavar is majestic, almost more than 8 feet in length. You have to look at his Padhams(feet) from a window outside in the praharam. You can see the long stalk of the Lotus flower arising from His naval to the Brahma idol on the wall. The Utsavar is Bhoomibalan.Prathyaksham for Varunan,Nirrudhi,Dharmarajan.

Mangalaasasanam The temple is revered by the verses of Nammalwar.

Festivals During the Garuda Sevai utsavam(festival) in the month of Vaikasi(May-Jun) there are nine Garudasevai, a big event in which the utsava murthi is brought on Garuda vahana. This festivals draws thousands of visitors from nearby areas.

Temple location The temple is situated in the small town of Thirupulingudi near Sri Vaikundam.

Temple Timings The temple is open from 7:30 AM till 12:00 noon and from 5:00 pm till 8:00 pm

How to reach?
It is well connected by state highways roads, and this temple is 2 kms from Sri Vaikundam. Take your car or hire a cab to visit all the nine Tirupathis, going by the local bus is time consuming. If you are only three or less travellers, local auto rickshaws are the cheapest and best mode of transport.Negotiate and fix a rate for the day trip.
Those in Chennai can avail the services of Tamilnadu Tourism Development Corporation which is arranging the trip twice a month on the first and third Friday of the month. They can return by Wednesday morning.
Where to Stay? There are no big hotels here. Tiruchendur or Tirunelveli which are under 30 kms from here would be an ideal place for stay
Where to eat There are a few restauarants here.Use your judgement to find a hygienic place to eat in the available eateries.
Other interesting places around Thirupulingudi The other eight Nava Tirupathis are within a day's visit from here if you drive your car or hire a cab. Tiruchendur temple is a must visit temple from here.
