Sri Vadivazhagiya Nambi Perumal temple

This divya desam is around 30 kms from Trichy and about 8 kms from lalgudi. The main deity Lord Sri Narayana here is called Vadivazhagia Nambi and also called as Sundara Rajan. The temple is believed to have been built by the Chola kings of the late 8th century AD.,

As per the legend, sage Suthaba was doing penance at this place. He had to amphibious powers to live both in water and land. He ignored sage Durvasa, who was waiting for him. Durvasa got angry and cursed Suthaba to become a mandookam (frog in sanskrit). Suthaba pleaded to Durvasa to get relieved off the curse. Durvasa explained him that the curse was a result of a sin he had committed in his previous birth and Lord Vishnu would appear here to relieve him. Suthaba, as a frog, continued his penance under water in the Mendaka Theertham in the temple and Lord Narayana appeared to him as Sundararajan.

How to reach?

It is situated in the Trichy-Kallanai route on the north bank of the river Kollidam. There are buses from Trichy, Kumbakonam, Lalgudi that goes via Anbil.
